The Default Future

The future you'll get if nothing changes — your past on autopilot. It arrives by itself, which is exactly why it never feels like a decision.

The future you will get if nothing changes. Not a plan, not a forecast — the predictable continuation of what already happens, arriving on its own. It is the past, extrapolated: the same architecture in three years with more tables, the same team dynamics with different names, the same backlog with newer tickets. Its defining property is that nobody chooses it. A decision can be examined; a default cannot, because it never presents itself as a decision. It simply shows up, on schedule, looking like circumstance.
